Be the Boss You Always Wanted and Needed
Do you remember waking up and immediately feeling uneasy and stressed before the workday even began? I remember feeling this way for years without realizing that bad management was mostly to blame. It is important for leaders to model expected behaviors and set standards even if you are your only employee. Goal-setting/monitoring and performance review should be monthly practices in every business. Professional development and team skill building should also be of high priority. Incorporating these into your business will ensure your employees are happier and more motivated. Set the Tone Leaders must set the tone for the day and others will naturally follow. Sometimes it can be very tiresome having to be the only one to bring the hype on a daily basis. It helps to start each day with a morning routine. Make sure you give yourself enough time every morning for something that brings you joy. I enjoy listening to inspiring stories while I drink my morning coffee. It leaves me feeling motivated and excited for the day. Whether you have employees or not, setting the tone for the day is extremely important. Goals and Performance Reviews Goals should be written out and put in a place where you will see them each day. It isn’t news to anyone that it is important and even healthy to set goals for yourself, but how often are you monitoring your progress on the goals? Setting aside time for a monthly review is a great practice to keep your goals fresh in mind. A monthly review can consist of a questionnaire you fill out for yourself each month. At the end of the year it would be very encouraging to look back on your reviews to see how far you have come and use the information to create new goals. Professional Development It does not matter how good you are at your job, you still need professional development. It is good to keep important concepts at the forefront of the mind. Without professional development some concepts could be forgotten and new information could be missed. There are also huge benefits to meeting and engaging with other business owners and like-minded people. Time is typically set aside for this at most PD sessions. The Rundown Don’t be a grumpy boss! Self-care is so important! What is on the inside will show up on the outside. Fill yourself with healthy things that bring you joy and happiness and focus on the good in your life. Set goals and monitor them. Keep track of your progress and reward yourself. Sign up for professional development and continue learning and growing in your field of business. You have never made it! There is always more to learn! The Office in Mansfield 04/12/23

Time Crunch?
Have you ever stopped and wondered how the day got away from you so fast? You are left standing there at the end of the day with a to-do list in your hand that is still a mile long. Some days instead of checking things off the list we just end up adding more. We have all had those days, but what if there was a way to make those days few and far between? With a few painless lifestyle changes you can master your time management which will boost overall productivity, lower stress levels, and lead you to living your best life. Stick to the Plan It is important to make a plan and stick to it. At the start of each week, create a plan for each day and prioritize the tasks that need your immediate attention. You should prioritize tasks that have upcoming deadlines and tasks that are more difficult than others. Leave room in your plan for unforeseen events or tasks that come up. Keep your daily-plan realistic and achievable. You should not put your long-term goals on this list. Multitasking=Mistakes Multitasking is considered a norm in our society. With the amount of things we try to juggle these days, multitasking is inevitable from time-to-time. However, is it beneficial for your business? When you are focusing on more than one task at a time, you are not giving each individual task the time and attention it needs. Better work can be produced and less mistakes happen when focusing on one task at a time. Make Time Allow time for breaks. It is important to have set times in your day for work and play or relaxation. Overworking yourself on a daily basis can lead to burnout as well as health problems. Taking a break and coming back to a task with fresh eyes is highly beneficial. Mistakes are noticed more often when they are looked at after stepping away even for a few minutes. The Rundown Are you ready to feel like your best self? Writing down your prioritized list of daily goals or responsibilities provides your brain with organization rather than chaos. It also allows you to focus on one task at a time and produce quality work. Quality work is also produced when appropriate breaks are taken during the day and time is scheduled for yourself. Your mind and body will thank you. -The Office in Mansfield 03/15/23 |
